I could spend all day reading the letters and responses. It amazes me to no end how wide spread the ignorance of our "Judeo-Christian" culture really is. The constant biblical quotes to substantiate biblical claims are the type of circular arguments that drive me crazy. Your ability to ferret out the "gist" of a letter and address it with facts and references is truly refreshing. As is the erudition of so many of the contributors to both Positive Atheism, and American Atheists. I don't pretend to be as biblically knowledgeable as even the average believer, but I know enough to know I would rather think for myself. One day I will die, and I sincerely hope there is an opportunity to document that I will not call out for salvation--fox hole or no.
Since I readily admit to any one that I am "a-theist", I am frequently a target of those in search of souls to save. Once they know and like me, only to find I am an un-believer, they rally to save this soul they feel is certainly worthy. In the end they are only successful in convincing me further of the truth, which serves to alienate them from me, though I am careful not to offend. This proves to be difficult though--when pointing out the obvious flaws in their beliefs-- and ultimately they give up and move on to easier prey.
The letters and responses are great for me because they reinforce so many of the beliefs I own, but have trouble keeping adequate explanations of in my short term memory. Thanks to you and everyone involved for all your hard work!
