I have stumbled across an excellent web reference site for skeptics of all flavors. It is called the Skeptic's Dictionary, and contains hundreds of definitions and articles on all sort of things: from "Becoming a Critical Thinker" to alchemy, alien abductions, alpha waves, the bible code, chelation therapy, dianetics, ear candling, mesmerism, the piltdown hoax, the Randi Psychic Challenge, and Santa Claus.
Take this example, from a section on Glossolalia, or speaking in tongues. After giving a definition, and statement on the subject by a linguist, it continues:
When spoken by schizophrenics, glossolalia are recognized as gibberish. In charismatic Christian communities glossolalia is sacred and referred to as "speaking in tongues" or having "the gift of tongues." In Acts of the Apostles, tongues of fire are described as alighting on the Apostles, filling them with the Holy Spirit. Allegedly, this allowed the Apostles to speak in their own language but be understood by foreigners from several nations. Glossolalics, on the other hand, speak in a foreign language and are understood by nobody.
Ya gotta love it! Enjoy.
