I have been raised by Jehovah's Witnesses and two months ago my nephew died. In my grief co-workers and relatives and friends in other 'Christian' groups and sects as well as my own could not comfort me, not only because of my grief in and of itself but also because the arguments that were supposed to to comfort did not, could not because the beliefs were not only illogical but immoral; how many babies must die by starvation, abuse, or otherwise, how many other poor souls must be left in hellishly 'god-forsaken' conditions without god taking an active loving interest in helping them by ending hunger, war, crime and corruption now as well as bigotry and intolerance. the answer is now clear to me: god is cruel and callow or he doesn't exist. I think it better that there be no god than that there be an insensitive uncaring god.
