Dear Cliff,
Thank you, I received the issues of the magazine you sent and enjoyed reading them. I look forward to more.
I read the letter "Who Do You Think This Whore Is?" and your reply. Let me say up-front that I totally agree with you and wish at times when confronted with this kind of Christian Doomsday Cult thinking that I had your knowledge and way with words to use to confront it. You said a couple of things in this exchange that made me smile when I read them because you stated my thoughts exactly. I would like to expand on these ideas a bit more.
Non-religious people like me are lumped into the category of being "pro abortion." In the black and white world of the Christian Cultists this defines a position that is not true to what I think about the issue. I have been, for many years, responding to Christian Cultists' attacks by saying, "I am not 'pro-abortion' and my personal decision is to never have one." This to me has always been a personal choice matter. You are right about the "one way street" thinking of the Christian Cultists, this is never good enough for them. They usually try to enlist my services to help them force my personal opinion on everybody. I have refused for two reasons.
One, I disagree with the method by which they arrived at their "personal" conviction. I did not arrive at mine by consulting gods, ghosts, goblins, demons, 1500 year old myths and those who claim to have dialog with non-existent entities. I thought about it, I read scientific, medical and historical texts and discussed it with many other people and formed my own opinion. To the Christian Cultists this is a very dangerous method of arriving at any opinion about anything!
Two, I vehemently disagree with the methods the Christian Cultists use to force their "personal" opinions on the rest of the world. Picture an anti-abortion rally outside a clinic where the signs that are waved say, "I will adopt and provide a good home for your child. No questions asked." Every person has a clipboard with a legal adoption contract on it. All these people have been screened and certified by secular adoption agencies and the religious corporations have their checkbooks out to pay expenses and to help support the families who do adopt if the need arises. I know, I'm dreaming. Particularly about the checkbook part. Far be it from the Christian Cultists to actually help anybody. Their job always seems to be to point fingers, blame, belittle, accuse, curse, hassle, hate, hurt, encourage bombings and shootings, etc.
But, to me, the most hypocritical part of the Christian Cultists' deal is their firm stand against good, honest comprehensive sex education and their fear that a young person might actually know something about his/her own sexual functioning. "God forbid" a young person should know that sex is a pleasurable activity that can have certain consequences if not approached in an educated and responsible way. "God forbid" that a child is taught why sex is such a strong drive; that they are here because animals evolved with this drive so they will make more animals like themselves so their species will survive and evolve further. Can't teach that evolution stuff, it's "ungodly." Can't talk about contraception, can't talk about masturbation, can't talk about using a condom because "god" sent the AIDS virus to punish those sinning homosexuals and we shouldn't interfere with "god's" punishments lest we be smote in one of his mysterious ways. And on, and on, And on! No, the Christian Cultists preach no education about this dirty, vile, unclean, ungodly act to this stupid, sinning herd of sheep, therefore, guaranteeing more abortions for them to protest about. It really has always amazed me that the Christian religion has blinded so many people to their method of manufacturing the fodder for their own evil, money grubbing, dishonest, two-faced mill.
This type of thing always made me sick, but to have these lying hypocrites in power in every branch of our government and to see their power growing daily is really frightening. I hope enough people wake up before it's too late.
Thanks for letting me vent. Joel
Joel
