Holy Hermes, I didn't know this page existed! Where've I been!
Thanks to the Unitarian infidels, I guess, I was directed here just today. Sorry I didn't know about it sooner, because I would have included it in my 1,260-page tome, Who's Who in Hell: a Handbook and International Directory for Humanists, Freethinkers, Naturalists, Rationalists, and Non-theists (NY: Barricade Books, 2000, $125.00).
And the news arrived just too late to be included in the paperback, Celebrities in Hell (Barricade Books, 2002) which will be out next month.
By Hell, I mean the theological invention, the place that doesn't exist, of course. I list over 10,000 non-theists and freethinkers from the days of the Ancient Greeks right down to Gore Vidal, Katharine Hepburn, and Christopher Reeve, with short biographies of all.
In a crowd such as this, yes I'm an a-theist (also an a-vegetarian, an a-Michiganite, an a-theodician, and I'm even a-retromingent). In other crowds, I say what I am, not what I'm not. For example, I'm a Unitarian humanist. I know (not just believe) that when I will die I will die. With Bertrand Russell Society members, I'm a humanistic naturalist. Labels, labels, labels! In the final analysis, the really good people are the 10,000 I have listed (despite the fact that some are Unitarian deists or transcendentalists of past centuries).
I can see from the webpage that I've got a lot of reading to do!
Sincerely,
Warren Allen Smith

Ay! I looked for myself in that thing over a year ago! Wha-
We'll accept this as an honorary entry in the book, which is on our "to purchase" list (soon as I recover, financially, from two moves in as many months) for possible mining for our Big List of Quotations. (Thus, if you have a URL for the book, any quote we grab from it gets a secondary source with link! We'd also gladly accept, as quotes submissions, any that were left on your cutting-room floor, so to speak, also with a link to the book, if you wish.)
As for labels, I am a man. Only in the context of distinguishing myself from theists am I an atheist. (See: "To Symbolize That Which Is Not?" and "Atheism: But A Small Part.")
